Elizabeth Taylor’s Bulgari Sapphire Is in Brooklyn
The Adventurine’s recent article, by Marion Fasel, Elizabeth Taylor’s Bulgari Sapphire Is in Brooklyn, offers an interesting history of the gorgeous gem, as well as an inside look at the Brooklyn Museum’s Studio 54: Night Magic exhibition (which just reopened following its several months-long closure due to the pandemic).
Elizabeth received the sapphire sautoir as a 40th birthday present from her then-husband Richard Burton in 1972, while in Budapest, Hungary. Fasel wrote, “The extraordinary Bulgari piece centers on a pavé-set diamond octagonal pendant set with a sugarloaf cabochon sapphire weighing approximately 52.72 carats. It has elegant calibré-cut sapphires and four bullet-shaped diamonds framing the pendant.”
